This fine art counted cross stitch pattern entitled Diana and Cupid designed from a painting by Pompeo Batoni shows that according to Roman mythology, Diana, goddess of the hunt is reclining in a hallow in the countryside and is lifting up Cupid's bow and withholding it from his grasp.  The colors are spectacular to say the least showing vibrant fluidity especially in the blue shades and reds.  Of note is that Diana is well-dressed but in contrast Cupid is barely dressed.  There is power play here because Diana is withholding the bow that causes people (when Cupid uses it) to fall in love. Diana is letting Cupid know that there is more to her that defines her character than just looks, and she will not be controlled by Cupid's love powers.  This painting was commissioned by Sir Humphrey Morice. Only full cross stitches are used in our patterns. No blended colors are used. We only use an abundance of solid colors as it produces a more realistic effect.
