This Scottish counted cross stitch pattern entitled Fatlips Castle, Scotland photographed by Sonya Kate Wilson shows the ruins of Fatlips Castle situated in the Scottish Borders overlooking the River Teviot.  It was built in the 16th century by the Turnbulls.  Its original purpose was for a place to set bonfires to warn residents at a nearby castle (Bedrule Castle) of impending doom.  The castle gets its unusual name because it is said that gentlemen who entered the ruin were behaving in a way with less discretion by greeting a lady with a kiss which was considered rather forward for that time period. I love this image because it has a dream-like quality as the trees are waving in the wind and the grasses toward the bottom seem to be reaching upward towards the tower.  No blended colors are used in our patterns.  We only use an abundance of solid colors as it produces a more realistic effect.  Only full cross stitches are used in our designs.
