This fine art counted cross stitch pattern entitled Antony and Cleopatra designed from a painting by Sir Lawrence Alma-Tadema shows Cleopatra lounging on a portable divan anticipating the meeting with Mark Antony.  Mark Antony was a military leader from Rome and Cleopatra was the Queen of Egypt, and together they had a torrid love affair that was well-known throughout the ages.  Mark Antony was torn between his love and position of power in the military and his undying love for Cleopatra.  Cleopatra wanted Mark Antony as her forever lover, but could not have him all to herself, so she committed suicide by allowing herself to be bitten by an asp, a deadly snake prevalent in Egypt during that time.  When Mark Antony was defeated in battle by the new ruler, Octavian, Mark Antony also committed suicide.  Only full cross stitches are used in our patterns. No blended colors are used. We only use an abundance of solid colors as it produces a more realistic effect.
