This fine art counted cross stitch pattern entitled Thetis and Achilles Called from Chiron designed from a painting by Pompeo Batoni shows that according to Greek mythology, nymphs were carrying Achilles to the shell to rest while Thetis (Achilles' mother) says goodbye to Chiron, the Centuar whom she entrusted to teach Achilles important skills and trades, and basically how to be the man that he became. When learning that her beloved son's fate was to die in the Trojan war, Thetis spirited Achilles off the battle field in an attempt to make him immortal and hid him in a shell to be returned to her. She dipped his body in the River Styx but the water did not touch his ankles, so he did not become totally immortal as she had wished. Only full cross stitches are used in our patterns. No blended colors are used. We only use an abundance of solid colors as it produces a more realistic effect.
