This fine art counted cross stitch pattern entitled Winter Landscape with Figures Entering a Cottage designed from a painting by Cesar Van Loo shows a winter scene with a large spooky frost-covered tree dominating the scene as two people are moving quickly towards shelter and running past the tree as if it were something to be feared or that it will attack them. The winter sky is an eerie shade of slate gray and taupe. The tree itself sits up high on top of a slab of rocks as judge, jury and executioner as it watches the two men sneak by. Although the colors in the scenery are largely earth tones, there is an uncanny beauty in the way the artist painted the frost on certain objects like the rocks and the tree which endears us to this particular scene and makes us want to get cozy. Only full cross stitches are used in our patterns. No blended colors are used. Instead, we only use an abundance of solid colors to produce a more realistic effect.
