This fine art counted cross stitch pattern entitled The Nereides designed from a painting by Gaston Bussiere shows three Nereid sisters swimming together symbolic of the beauty and kindness of the sea. In Greek mythology they use their melodious voices to sing and dance in a circle around their father. Their complexion is pink in nature. Upon their long tresses they wear red crowns of coral and wear starfish as combs in their hair. They generally are shown with legs and feet and not with fishtails like mermaids. The scene shows they have entered a sea cave or grotto to rest and communicate with each other. The scene is lively and colorful and would be a beautiful piece to stitch! Only full cross stitches are used in our patterns. No blended colors are used. Instead, we only use an abundance of solid colors to produce a more realistic effect.
