This fine art counted cross stitch pattern entitled Bishop of the Russian Orthodox Church designed from a painting by Vladimir Lukich Borovikovsky shows a portrait of the highest church official in Russian culture and religion. In Russian religion, apostolic succession is practiced, and the belief is that the message from the bishop is a direct continuation of the message from the Apostles of Jesus to his flock. The bishop in this portrait is wearing layers of vestments, a striped prayer shawl, headgear and several necklaces, one of them being the cross. The colors worn in this portrait are shades of green, tan, ecru and brown which seem to be in perfect harmony with each other. Only full cross stitches are used in our patterns. No blended colors are used. We only use an abundance of solid colors as it produces a more realistic effect.
