Pyotr Basin (1793–1877) was a distinguished Russian painter and a central figure in the Neoclassical and Academic movements. A graduate of the Imperial Academy of Arts in Saint Petersburg, Basin’s immense talent earned him a prestigious scholarship to study in Rome, where he spent over a decade refining his craft.
