This fine art counted cross stitch pattern entitled Ariadne designed from a painting by John William Waterhouse shows Ariadne, a lovely young woman idling on a divan by the sea. She is the daughter of King Minos and Pasiphae. She wears a flowing red gown that symbolizes her vivacious ways, passion and zest for life. The poppies scattered by her side add interesting contrast to her gown, and her abundant brown hair spills over the back of the seating that she shares with a pet leopard. Off in the distance we can see ships docking with cargo. According to Greek mythology, Ariadne fell in love with Thesues who was to be sacrificed to the Minotaur. However, Ariadne assisted Thesues in slaying the Minotaur and left the island of Crete. Ariadne was left on the island of Naxos where she was spotted by Dionysis who fell in love with her and made her is wife. Only full cross stitches are used in our patterns. No blended colors are used. We only use an abundance of solid colors as it produces a more realistic effect.
