This waterscape counted cross stitch pattern entitled A Regatta on the Grand Canal designed from a painting by Bernardo Bellotto, il Canaletto shows a celebration on the water where Venetians get together with their boats and have races on the canal. The event is attended by many, and in this scene the excitement is evident! The canal is literally crowded with so many boats that you care barely see the water. The boats are painted in bright colors, and onlookers watch and predict who will win the races. The people are from a wide variety of social classes presenting with gondolas, rowboats and merchant ships; and they all participate in it for a day of fun, idyll and excitement. Only full cross stitches are used in our patterns. No blended colors are used. We only use an abundance of solid colors as it produces a more realistic effect.
