This fine art counted cross-stitch pattern entitled The Old Gateway designed from a painting by Thomas Edwin Mostyn shows a solitary figure in a white gown standing before a pair of towering, weathered stone pillars that lead into a dark, mysterious forest. In creating this piece, Mostyn wanted to emphasize the threshold between the structured world of man and the untamed beauty of nature, using the crumbling gateway as a symbol of passage and time. The visual palette is a dramatic contrast of luminous, sun-lit creams on the stone pillars and the woman's dress, set against the deep, midnight blues and shadowy teals of the dense woodland interior. This pattern is for lovers of Edwardian Romanticism and enchanted landscape art like myself who appreciate the tension between light and shadow. The scene captures the heavy silence of a forgotten estate, where the bright floral blooms in the foreground are the last remnants of civilization before the wild woods take over.  Only full cross stitches are used in our patterns. No blended colors are used. Instead, we use a variety of solid colors to achieve a more realistic effect.
