This fine art counted cross stitch pattern entitled The Assyrian Captive designed from a painting by Edwin Longsden Long shows a young woman who was part of the Kingdom of Israel being held captive and forced into exile under the Assyrian Empire. This mass exodus and exile occurred in approximately 732 BCE, and the woman represents a depiction of a member of the Ten Lost Tribes of Israel. In this scene, the young captive's demeanor and expression on her face show a look of foreboding feelings, fear, and a longing to be with her people. Only full cross stitches are used in our patterns. No blended colors are used. Instead, we use a variety of solid colors to achieve a more realistic effect. Our charts are in black and white only.
