Anton Ebert portrait for counted cross stitch, 19th-century Austrian painter photo, famous artist cross stitch chart, Victorian portrait design.

Anton Ebert (1845–1896) was a popular Austrian Academic and Genre painter who worked during the late Victorian period (the second half of the 19th century). Born in Bohemia, he studied at the Prague Academy and was a student of the renowned Austrian Romantic painter, Ferdinand Georg Waldmüller, whose style heavily influenced Ebert's work. Ebert’s primary patronage came from a thriving portrait practice in Vienna, where he captured the likenesses of royalty, aristocrats, and society figures, including miniature portraits of Emperor Franz Joseph I. He excelled at depicting the human figure, especially young women in costume and children in charming, often nostalgic, genre scenes drawn from his childhood near Kladrau Castle (such as "Children at the Well"). His paintings, characterized by their traditional academic style, fresh palette, and detailed realism, translate beautifully into cross stitch designs, allowing stitchers to re-create the tender intimacy of his portraits and the warm, narrative quality of Viennese and Bohemian life. Stitching an Anton Ebert design is a wonderful way to honor the grace and sentimentality of 19th-century fine art, capturing a moment of timeless beauty in every thread.
