This fine art counted cross stitch pattern entitled Portrait of Nikolai Sheremetev designed from a painting by Vladimir Lukich Borovikovsky shows a portrait of Nikolai, a Russian count who excelled in the arts.  In his younger years, he acted in plays and also played the cello.  He influenced his son with his zest for living and transferred his passion for the arts to his son.  Nikolai provided special education in the arts for serf children, and one young woman whom he groomed for acting success he ended up marrying.  Nikolai later was elected senator and moved to St. Petersburg.  Unfortunately, his wife contracted an incurable disease and died.  Six years after her death, Nikolai followed her in death leaving one heir (his son).  He had a simple funeral and requested that any extra monies be distributed to the poor and monasteries.  Only full cross stitches are used in our patterns. No blended colors are used. We only use an abundance of solid colors as it produces a more realistic effect.
