This fine art counted cross stitch pattern entitled Vincent Voiture as Saint Louis designed from a painting by Philippe de Champaigne shows the portrait of a great poet who was being honored by the artist and was also a favorite in the French court. Years later, Vincent Voiture's daughter decided to become a nun, and when she went to the convent, she had wanted to keep her father's portrait with her to hang in her room, but the authorities of the convent had a rule that she could only hang up religious portraits. So, the artist turned the portrait from ordinary poet to saint by adding a royal scepter, royal robes, a crown, and an ermine cape and making him hold a crown of thorns which is associated with Jesus. That was the only way his daughter would be allowed to have the picture in her room. Only full cross stitches are used in our patterns. No blended colors are used. Instead, we only use an abundance of solid colors to produce a more realistic effect.
