This fine art counted cross stitch pattern entitled Alexander I of Russia designed from a painting by Vladimir Lukich Borovikovsky shows a portrait of Alexander I, Czar of Russia for 24 years until his death in 1825.  Although he was a friend of Napoleon, he engaged in a battle that helped defeat Napoleon.  Napoleon had called Alexander a "shifty Byzantine, but the nickname that was used most often by others was "the Blessed."  However, during the second half of his reign, Alexander became more paranoid about vicious plots that he felt were being hatched against him and responded by retracting some of the reforms he had made to the people of Russia.  Alexander I had no sons but had two daughters who died early on in their childhood.  The Czar himself died of typhus while on a trip to the southern part of Russia and was succeeded in death by his younger brother Nicholas I.  Only full cross stitches are used in our patterns. No blended colors are used. We only use an abundance of solid colors as it produces a more realistic effect.
