This fine art counted cross stitch pattern entitled Message from the Sea designed from a painting by John Everett Millais shows a girl sitting on a large boulder that is covered with weathered golden seaweed. She is sitting by the ocean reading a message that had been left in a bottle that has washed up on shore. The theme of unpredictability rings out here in that life is full of unpredictable events which makes communication all the more important in those instances. The scene shows an overcast day; the swells of the tide are rushing in, and an obscure bottle washes up on shore where it is found by the girl. The colors used in this scene are gorgeous and contrast and blend so well with each other, especially the golds and browns of the rock up against the cool colors of the ocean. This is one of my favorite ocean scenes and is on my "favorites" list to stitch. If you like maritime scenes that have beautiful colors, this is the one to stitch. Only full cross stitches are used in our patterns. No blended colors are used. We only use an abundance of solid colors as it produces a more realistic effect.
