This New England counted cross stitch pattern entitled The Wedding Cake House shows a very ornate building grand in stature in yellow and white resembling the formal style one would use for a wedding cake.  The Wedding Cake house was considered to be one of the most photographed homes in the State of Maine was built by a shipbuilder named George W. Bourne.  He added onto the house by building a barn and a carriage house.  Later, the carriage house caught fire but saved the main house from burning.  Mr. Bourne was influenced by the fancy Gothic type cathedrals in Milan and sought to incorporate that style in his home.  The house has a wedding cake-like appearance; thus it is how it got its name.  Descendants of George Bourne purchased the house and restored it to its glory in 1984.  However, due to the harsh winters and lack of maintenance, the Gothic trim is now decaying and no longer looks like it used to.  Only full cross stitches are used in our patterns. No blended colors are used. We only use an abundance of solid colors as it produces a more realistic effect.
