This fine art counted cross stitch pattern entitled Asceticism and Love of Life designed from a painting by Frank Buchser shows a group of monks who have taken vows of celibacy to give up the joys of life and personal pleasures in order to obtain a spiritual goal. It takes a special mindset to accomplish this task. They are walking in brown robes like monks in a group marching to their own beat while the other side of the scene is showing the pleasures they have given up like the man and woman riding horses together and a woman playing with her young daughter in the grass. However, the artist is also trying to get across in some cases the dangers of austere practices of asceticism and the power those who practice it can wield over young and innocent minds when deprived of the pleasure of daily life. Only full cross stitches are used in our patterns. No blended colors are used. Instead, we only use an abundance of solid colors to produce a more realistic effect.
