This mermaid counted cross stitch pattern entitled The Land Baby designed from a painting by John Collier shows an adult female mermaid who is a mother and is calling out to her child who happens to be a land baby. The child seems timid and anxious to venture forth, but the mother mermaid is reassuring wanting to hold her child and spend some bonding time with her. In the background, there is a large grotto entrance on the beach which probably provides shelter for the baby when her mother is away. The colors are vibrant and bold, and it is touching to see the connection between the mermaid and her baby. Only full cross stitches are used in our patterns. No blended colors are used. Instead, we only use an abundance of solid colors to produce a more realistic effect.
