This fine art counted cross stitch pattern entitled Stolzenfels Castle, in the Background Lahneck Castle designed from a painting by Karl Bodmer shows Stolzenfels Castle with the Lahneck Castle in the background. Both are located in Germany. The Lahneck is a medieval castle built in the 13th century that sits on a steep cliff high above the Lahn and Rhine rivers. The Lahneck Castle, even though beautiful, has a melancholy history in that in 1851, a 17-year-old girl named Idilia Dubb was walking and exploring around the castle which was abandoned at that time when the wooden stairs gave way behind her, and she fell through to her death. As she was injured and hanging pendulously, no one could hear her piteous cries due to the high walls, and she left a death note which wasn't found until years later when her body was also found. Only full cross stitches are used in our patterns. No blended colors are used. We only use an abundance of solid colors as it produces a more realistic effect.
