This fine art counted cross-stitch pattern, entitled 'The Ruined Castle,' designed from a painting by Barend Cornelis Koekkoek, shows a dilapidated castle in the throes of fading away. Sadly what once was the epitome of grandeur has now been reduced to a state of disrepair. The castle sits up high on a hill. Travelers walking toward it and away from it are greeted with a spectacular sky that seems to touch the ground with large billowy masses of clouds against a bluish and periwinkle sky pelted with bouts of early snow. The wind has picked up and is blowing through the tall trees, and the birds in the air don't seem to mind, watching the entire scene from above. The greenery of the surrounding vegetation and shrubs is lush in colors of dark green and rust. The scene has the quality of a nature fairytale as seen by the artist, who was known for his legendary landscapes. Only full cross stitches are used in our patterns. No blended colors are used. Instead, we use a variety of solid colors to achieve a more realistic effect.
